Request Information about A Lanis of Krasnoyarsk

I would be very grateful if anyone could help me to find any information about A. A. Lanis (in Russian - Ланис ) or his parents or family members. For example, help to telephone, email, or write to the Krasnoyarsk Jewish community would be appreciated. Help may be available from a Russian acquaintence or Jewish Russian languages professor. I have a little information here to get started.

I believe A. A. Lanis' first name was Abram or Abraham. Mr. Lanis family consisted of his wife, and several children. The home, which was burned during the pogroms, was apparently at Zeledeyeva, a small village very near Krasnoyarsk. From searching various maps, I would guess that this is the Zeledeyeva that is near the present day Krasnoyarsk airport and town of Yemyelyanovo ( ЕМЕЛЬЯНОВО ). Krasnoyarsk is a major city of 900,000 on the Yenisey River in central Siberia.

I have a black and white photo, below, of his tombstone taken possibly about 1950 by a family member. Written on the gravestone is the name 'Ланис'. This photo shows an interesting structure in the background that should help to locate the grave site. He may have died about 1910 (?), and is very likely buried in Krasnoyarsk at the Old Jewish Cemetery, or the Jewish section of the city Cemetery.

I also have a color photo* above, taken in 1999 in the Krasnoyarsk Jewish Cemetery, which shows the same (or a remarkably similar) structure as the one in the black and white. [*found on the Internet, at images.yahoo.com with the search words 'krasnoyarsk jewish cemetery']

I found a Krasnoyarsk Jewish Community website*, and listings for contact persons on the Cemetery and Burial Society at the Synagogue. I have tried sending English email to these people a couple times, but have not received any response, so I don't know if the email there is up to date or can readby them. I have not, and am not able to search any Russian language websearch engines or yellow pages, which a Russian person may be able to do quickly.

Krasnoyarsk is 9 hour ahead of California. When it is 5PM in California on Friday, it is 8AM in Krasnoyarsk on the following day, Saturday. If a phone call is to be made from California, it should be made in the evening.

What I would like to find out:

  1. Is the grave there? If so, can someone email some digital photos of it so that the inscriptions can be read.

  2. Are there graves from any other family members, and again digital pictures would be very welcome.

  3. Are there any records in the office of the Cemetery or Synagogue forMr. Lanis or his family. If so would they be so kind to email or post photocopies, or provide whatever information is recorded. This may give information about his parents, his birth and death dates and places, information about his family, and maybe an obituary.

  4. Are there any known living family members still there?

Any of this would be greatly appreciated
